Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar district (SAS Nagar district), also known as Ajitgarh district, is one of the twenty two districts of Punjab a state in north-west India. It was formed in April 2006 and is 18th district of Punjab, created next to Pathankot district. This district was carved out of areas falling in Ropar and Patiala District. SAS Nagar is named after the eldest son of Guru Gobind Singh, Sahibzada Ajit Singh which means "House of Sahibzada Ajit Singh". Fatehgarh Sahib district is one of the twenty-two districts of the state of Punjab in North-West India, with its headquarters in the city of Fatehgarh Sahib. The district came into existence on 13 April 1992, Baisakhi Day and derives its name from Sahibzada Fateh Singh, the youngest son of 10th Guru Gobind Singh, who along with his brother was bricked-up alive on the orders of Suba Sirhind, Wazir Khan in 1704, and which is now the site of the 'Gurudwara Fatehgarh Sahib'. It became the 17th district of Punjab State on 24 November 1995 cut from Faridkot district. It is also known as NRI district. Most Punjabi Non-resident Indians (NRIs) belong to rural areas of Moga District, who immigrated to the United States, the UK and Canada in the last 30–40 years. 40-45% of the population of NRIs from Canada, the US and the UK belong to Moga district. (The NRI Punjabis of the UK are almost exclusively from the Doaba regions of Jalandhar and Hoshiarpur. Those from Moga are a tiny minority). The town of Rupnagar (formerly known as Rupar or Ropar) is said to have been founded by a Raja called Rokeshar, who ruled during the 11th century and named it after his son Rup Sen.
